Ruffians was founded in Edinburgh’s West End in 2012, borne of a frustration with the lack of barber shops which provided great customer service. Within six months it became a resounding success and won Best Independent Newcomer at the British Hairdressing Business Awards, and Best New Salon and Best Designed Salon in the UK at the prestigious Creative Head industry awards.
December 2013 saw Ruffians launch in London’s Covent Garden, and this flagship store has gone on to win Best Customer Experience in the UK within eight months of trading. A subsequent Marylebone shop was opened in January 2016.
We pride ourselves on our customer service, from our personable approach, with your dedicated barber taking you through your whole service, to our integrated vacuum system ensuring no hairs stray down the neck. to our bespoke whisky and coffee bar offering a rolling calendar of seasonal tipples. The stores are designed to be stylish, relaxing and masculine environments, with Scottish oak cutting desks providing a communal atmosphere and bringing back the legacy of the barber as a social hub in the community.
We host pop-up shops, limited collaborations, events and photo shoots regularly, and encourage all Ruffians to get involved. We also have a tailored product range that we use throughout the service and which are available to buy in store.
Now an established local business in the West End Community, we have loved being part of the area, and has sought out exciting partnerships with Walker Slater, Innis & Gunn, Brew Lab, The Edinburgh Whisky Blog, Arbikie Gin & Vodka, while also reaching out to the student population and working at charity events.
We like to see ourselves as a trustworthy and sociable hub for the local workers and residents, and like a place that anyone can drop in, say hi and have a coffee – even if they aren’t in for a haircut!
